I've always loved words and design. At school I won prizes for my stories and longed to be an artist. I obsessed for weeks on words like 'spin' and 'queen' for their esthetics. I spent hours on Cotswold hillsides trying to capture the ephemeral beauty of wild flowers. Then I decided that words and art should be in service to something else, and instead of becoming an 'artist', I became a 'scientist'.
My scientific training (B.Sc., M.Phil. in Botany, Genetics and Plant Breeding) led me to spend over 10 years working in scientific and medical publishing, providing a rigorous background in writing and editing skills. I learned the trade on staff in three publishing houses, before offering my services as a freelancer with the personal freedom and diversity that enabled.
I took a break from publishing to pursue a second career in massage and movement therapies, but never stopped writing. Over the years, I wrote and published articles and publicity materials on topics related to my work. I created two websites and an e-newsletter for my spa-retreat, and subsequently three weblogs for my views of spa culture, aquatic bodywork practice, and creative writing.
You'll find links to those Typepad weblogs above, along with three more Typepad sites created for Joe Landwehr. Joe is a writer and independent self-publisher of books related to the art of self-reflection, specifically using the poetic language of astrology. I provide administrative and editorial assistance for his businesses Ancient Tower Press and The Astropoetic School.
